The appartment is part of a
traditional French manor, situated in a sheltered side valley of the Dordogne
River. The closest amenities are just five minutes’ drive away in La
Roque-Gageac. The mansion was built in the 19th century, and since used by four
generations of the same family. The Dordogne River, with its good quality
swimming water and nice little sand beach, is just 1 km away.
Certainly worth visiting are the neighbouring historic villages of Domme and
Sarlat as are the slightly more remote pittoresque towns of Beynac en Bergerac.
Castles are everywhere: Beynac, Fayrac, Castelnaud, Monfort.
The
fortress of Castelnaud, illuminated at night, is viewed directly from the
terrace of the appartement. The landscape is characterised by steep cliffs and
gentle wooded hills, with an unusually high chance of bright sunshine. Don't
forget to visit the many wonderful caves, monuments of European stone-age
culture.
The second Sunday of August is the village's Patron's Feast with a fair and
magnificent fireworks.
Sarlat has a weekly market and many additional events. The town of Domme offers
a beautiful view of the entire region and the course of the Dordogne River. This
is the site to rent canoes an kayaks.
